Schwab Expands Overnight Trading to Over 1,100 Securities
Charles Schwab has significantly broadened its overnight trading capabilities, now offering retail clients access to more than 1,100 securities around the clock during market days. The expansion, facilitated through the thinkorswim platform, primarily includes popular exchange-traded funds (ETFs) and follows strong client demand.
The MOVE builds on Schwab's February 2024 announcement, which added S&P 500 and Nasdaq-100 stocks to its overnight session. Ameritrade, acquired by Schwab in 2020, first pioneered 24/5 trading in 2018 with a limited selection of ETFs.
Client engagement has been robust since the initial expansion, prompting this latest update. The extended trading window, known as EXTO, allows orders to remain active until 8pm ET each market day.
